Kaziranga, the only home for the one horn rhino, is a world heritage site situated in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Golaghat district, Assam.
date: 11th Jan 2009
place: Kohara (Karbi Anglong)
intention: picnic, and jungle safari in Kaziranga National Park
Timing was good for us, we reach Kaziranga at around 9am in the morning, may be 9:30 or so.
The weather was sunny, and perfect for animal watching. We took a jeep, we means me, my wife, brother and my parents. I did not had any forest guard accompanying the jeep, but we had some other jeeps to follow.
First we saw a rhino at a distance of 200m, and then saw a group of elephants, may be the papa elephant, the mother and the elephant son. They were at a distance of 300m from us. The drive suddenly spotted them, and backed the jeep. We had a nice view.
Then deer, then buffaloes, and then rhino again. We stopped at an forest guard watch tower, from there we saw a rhino at a very close by less than 100m from us.
Kaziranga is full of migratory birds in this season, we were lucky to see a couple of them.
Ever seen tortoise resting in tree, we saw them. They were sun bathing in the tree in the middle of the river. My camera shutter did not open properly when I shutted them first.
By the time we return, the sun was about to set. Our faces were full of dusts that the previous jeep left for us. To have this experience of life time you just need to pay Rs600/- for the jeep. But it is indeed an amazing trip to remember for life time.
